Viktor ... The dirty side of the Mafiya

This was the fourth book in Sapphire's series but only the second book with the Russkaya Mafiya.
We finally get Viktor's book. He is Tate's brother who is running the Bratva. He was first introduced in Secrets & sent to 'take care' of Emily's sister, Elaina. But he feels protective of her & he becomes her official guard, watching over her at 007. But what happens when someone starts sending threats to the family?
Elaina was a great character, you just wanted to hug her, I loved her spunkiness & sarcasm. And she was VERY protective of Viktor, especially during one scene, watch out.
And Viktor, the suit loving Boss, who just adores his Princess. I loved the Russian he spoke to her.
We did get a glimpse of some previous characters. Ares, short but sweet!!!
I loved Viktor, he thinks he is corrupted but so does Elaina, they were both in conflict thinking they weren't good for each other. Can they get their HEA?
Can't wait for the next book. Mafia. MC. Whatever you write next I'll love!!!

*SEXY, MYSTERIOUS, PASSIONATE, DANGEROUS!!! CANNOT GET ENOUGH!*

WOW!!! I was completely blown away by Corrupted! Another stunning and captivating novel by Sapphire Knight!

Corrupted is book #4 in her Russkaya Mafiya/Oath Keepers series. This book focuses on Viktor, Tate's brother, and Elaina, Emily's twin sister, and the dark side of the mafia. Even though this is book 4 in the series, it can be read after book 1, Secrets. But of course, I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND reading books 1-3 first! They are outstanding! :) Up until this book, Exposed has been my favorite novel in Sapphire's series. Yeah....that WAS my favorite until now! Corrupted takes you on a mystifying, fiery, and explosive journey through the hardships of love and life.

We are first introduced to Elaina and Viktor in Secrets. But we were only given a tiny morsel of the magnetic chemistry between these two characters. With a terrible and heart-wrenching past, Elaina is quick to guard herself from everyone. She's a strong, resilient, independent, and smart young woman, who does not trust easily. Yet beneath her hesitant and guarded exterior, she has a delicate, loving, and sensitive heart that only wants the same affections returned. And then there's Viktor, Tate's older brother. During the interactions with Viktor in Secrets, he came across as very puzzling and reserved. I didn't know much about him. Well, now I know exactly what type of man Viktor is.....he's two different men all together. There's the "mafia Viktor", unyielding, violent, malicious, and focused. Then there's "inner Viktor", possessive, intense, devoted, and protective...the type of man he is with Elaina. Sexy-swoon-tastic...without a doubt!!! (If he wasn't already spoken for, I'd totally call dibs on him!) Elaina and Viktor's personalities balance each other out effortlessly. They are both solitary people, but they also need the love and affection only family and loved ones can give. Their interactions and relationships with the supporting characters in the book are exactly how they treat one another. They show others the respect and courtesy that is bestowed unto themselves, unless otherwise revealed....which you'll definitely see that tenacious side of them both! With a side order of a crazy, wacko-psychotic named Kendall, this book offers everything. Love, endangerment, malice, insanity, lust, and obsession....I LOVED every page! I cannot wait for the next book in the series....I'm hoping more supporting characters get to share their story with us! :)

If you're already of fan of Sapphire Knight, then I don't have to tell you how fantastic her books are! But if you're a newbie, I strongly encourage you to pick up book 1, Secrets, and prepare yourself for a thrilling, and spine-tingling ride! All her books are a one-click-must-read! You won't be disappointed! :)

I'd love to be corrupted!

"I'm corrupted, Princess, I never promised to play fair."

Ok I love love love this book. Sapphire gets better with every book and I love getting to see her writing grow and somehow get better when I thought it had already peaked!

Using my 1-5 rating system of how many kleenex you need due to crying, how many times you need to change your panties, and how many asses you laugh off I give it:
3 kleenex's/5 panties/2 asses

First lets talk about the main characters:
Elaina
Elaina is Emily from Secrets long lost twin sister. IF you read book 1 you know how this was found out, if not take yourself off and read it so this book makes sense! Elaina grew up in foster care feeling unsafe and unloved. All she wants out of life is to make enough money to pay her bills and pay off the loan for her Camaro. What's a girl to do when you find out the truth about the beautiful brother in law of your twin?

Viktor
Viktor straight up steals this book. *sigh* He's such a perfect dichotomy of sinister and sweet. Viktor was raised to lead the Russian Maffiya and stepped out of the way for his baby brother Tate from Secrets. He ends up taking over the...messy side of the family business for his uncle. Despite being the boogie man of the Bratva he is always dressed impeccably and looks perfect. He avoided emotional connections until Elaina.

This book picks up a year after Secrets, Elaina is working in Club 007 where every day she's watched by Viktor. She doesn't know Viktor's family connections just that he protects her and due to a bad childhood is the only guy she trusts. Viktor craves Elaina in ways that would shock her possibly more than learning the truth of who he is. When an outside force shows up and forces him to reveal who he really is will Elaina accept him or run away out of fear?

Abandoning present-day intrigues (MAMista, Spy Sinker, etc.), Deighton journeys back to WW II (SS-GB and XPD)--and a terrific return it is: a rich drama of heroes and villains awaiting German General Erwin Rommel's attack on Cairo--the ``city of gold.'' The plots here are many, but central among them is the attempt by Special Investigation Branch Major Bert Cutler to unmask the spy who's been leaking British secrets to Rommel. The kicker is that Cutler isn't Cutler; he's really Jimmy Ross, a British corporal who was on his way to Cairo to be court-martialed for killing an officer when his escort, Cutler, keeled over from a heart attack. Quick-thinking Ross switched IDs with Cutler and now finds himself in Cairo with an office, full staff, and carte blanche to turn the city upside down in pursuit of the spy--that is, if he doesn't betray himself first to any of the marvelously realized characters who crowd the pages here, from his leathery assistant to a manipulative Jewish nationalist, a White Russian prince, two young and beautiful Englishwomen, an upper-class British deserter turned grand thief, a too-caricatured American reporter (all tough pose and cocky action), and King Farouk himself--fat, decadent, imperious. It's the deserter who--by committing a murder that Ross must investigate--turns out to be Ross's main foil; and it's he who pulls the narrative--the first half of which springs forward mostly on perfectly pitched dialogue--into the desert and shattering action as Rommel attacks an armored caravan carrying Ross and several others, precipitating a crisis that movingly strips these men, good and evil, down to their bare selves. At one point, Ross is likened to Bogart--appropriate in a novel so reminiscent in spirit to Casablanca. One of Deighton's lesser known, but better stories

This seems to be one of the lesser-known Deighton novels, but I have read it twice and I think this is both one of his best novels AND one of the best WW2 novels ever written. That praise may seem over the top, but this story is really, really good. Deighton puts a great twist of the story of Rommel's spy and he is a superb writer anyways. Well worth reading.

A Different Len Deighton

CITY OF GOLD is a different kind of Len Deighton book. There is no cold war Berlin here. No Bernard Sampson risking his life to make one more dangerous border crossing. No Fiona, the non-traitor traitor, nor any of the rest of Deighton's usual cast of spies, counter spies, and stay-at-homes. Deighton, to his credit, has tried something different here.
Far from the cold war in both time and place, we find ourselves in 1942 Cairo in the presence of one Bert Cutler who isn't Bert Cutler at all. He is really Jimmy Ross who doesn't want to be Bert Cutler but can't afford to be Jimmy Ross. We first meet Ross on a train on the way to Cairo in the Custody of Cutler. Ross is being taken to Cairo to be tried for murder when Cutler suffers a fatal heart attack. The quick thinking Ross manages to switch identities with the deceased and shortly finds himself in Cairo charged with finding the identity of a spy who is leaking information on British troop movements to Rommel, the Chief of the German Tank Corps. Ross doesn't want to stay Cutler. He doesn't want to hunt for a spy. All he wants to do is to escape before his true identity is discovered. An escape opportunity never presents itself.
This is not a spy story. It is, however, a pretty good adventure set in Cairo and the surrounding desert. As Cutler, Ross's life is further complicated by the murder of a British soldier that he is expected to investigate. In investigating this murder, he runs across a group of "special assignment" British Soldiers who aren't really soldiers at all, but armed marauders who steal British Munitions and sell them to the highest bidder. To further complicate matters, the second in command of this group isn't even British. He's really German, but none of the other members of his "Unit" have been able to figure that out. In the final analysis, this man is the key to solving both mysteries, the intelligence leak and the murder.
Ross, along with some real British Soldiers and the profiteering phonies are all caught in the desert in a major raid by Rommel. All but Ross die, but not before he has solved both questions. In the aftermath, Ross, whose true identity is discovered. is set free and never tried on the murder charge against him, but to get the answer to the key question: who was leaking the strategic information, I'm afraid that you will have to read CITY OF GOLD. That is what this review is about isn't it?

The book Injection Mold Design Engineering provides a great amount of detail on polymer flow in plastic manufacturing processes. The book describes the basics of mold flow design and shares insight in how polymers flow and where issues may arise in the design of molds. There are plenty of formulas with examples to demonstrate their application. Details cover many aspects of the mold design including wall thickness, runners, corners, angles, ribs and much more.

Some material seems to stop short of the complete details leaving the reader wanting. But the value of the rest of the material makes the book well worth its price. I use this book as one of several technical references in writting articles for a free on-line magazine that focuses on plastic polymers and the manufacturing processes [...], sponsored by Precise Mold and Engineering a custom plastic manufacturing company([...]).

Hewing close to the original film, Al Mansour tells the story of Wadjda, a rebellious and snarky 11-year-old Saudi Arabian girl. In a society that prizes modesty and piety in women, Wadjda clashes with authority: fiercely independent, she talks back to adults, listens to Western music, and yearns for a green bicycle she sees in a toy store. When her wayward habits land her in trouble yet again, she decides to go in a new direction by taking part in her school's Koran competition—in order to obtain the prize money and purchase the coveted bike. Wadjda is a well-executed character: despite her feisty nature, she's vulnerable and flawed, and her story will resonate with boys and girls alike. However, whereas in Wadjda, striking visual imagery conveyed the girl's desire for freedom, here, Al Mansour relies on often-clunky prose to describe every action, thought, or emotion. The author often pauses to explain the cultural context of various elements of Saudi culture (the significance of the veil, the concept of a second wife), which provides helpful background for readers unfamiliar with the region but feels purposeful and overwritten compared with the far more artful film. Haifaa Al Mansour is a Saudi Arabian film director and screenwriter, and the winner of an EDA Female Focus Award. Insightful middle grade fiction

Set in modern day Saudi Arabia, this middle grade fiction book tells the story of Wadjda, a spunky eleven year old girl who is challenging what is expected of her. As I was reading, the scenes sprung to life, as if in a movie. I thought it would be fabulous as a movie and was excited to read in the "About the Author" section at the end, that this is the author's debut novel and was based on her award winning feature film "Wadjda".

This would be a fantastic book for readers of any age to gain insight into everyday life in Saudi Arabia. The writing is simple enough for middle grade readers yet still engaging for older readers.

I appreciated how Al Mansour gets middle grade relationships just right: Wadjda has a good friend in Abdullah--most of the time. She loves and admires her mother--but she's frustrated by her, too. And she doesn't care about fitting in at school--except when she wants the rebel girls to notice her. A powerful story, simply told.
